TDS Weeton 858A 858B EN.pdf

Weeton 858A/858B is a two-component solvent-free flexible packaging laminating adhesive that is widely used in the lamination of plastic/plastic, plastic/aluminum, aluminized film, and other material structures. Characterized by high peel strength, excellent surface wettability, and excellent heat resistance. It has excellent disk life and excellent performance of fast curing, saving curing time and cost.

858A/ hardener 858B two-component solvent-free adhesive has medium viscosity and excellent wetting performance, which meets the requirements of high-speed laminating (0 - 300 m / min). 858A/ hardener 858B does not affect the openness of the inner layer of the composite film, does not contain castor oil components, the adhesive layer is transparent after curing, odorless, elastic, and resistant to aging.

The typical applicable structure is as follows +:

  • OPP/PET/PE
  • OPP/VMPET/PE(CPP)
  • OPP / CPP ( PE)
  • PA/PE; AI/PE
  • OPP/CPP, VMPET, VMCPP

+: Film should get appropriate surface tension by corona treatment

Directions for use

  • Ratio: The standard mass ratio 858A/hardener 858B = 100: 60 can be fine-tuned according to the properties of the product, the ink, the packaging material, and the operating conditions.
  • Mix method: Mix by automatic mixing machine, mix evenly before use.
  • Coating system temperature setting: Recommended mixing and coating operating temperature parameters are shown in the "Typical Use Parameters column" and can be adjusted according to the actual conditions of use.
  • Coating: Suitable for specialized laminating equipment with multi-roll coating systems.
  • Coating weight: Depending on the combination of plastic film or aluminum foil and the end use of the laminated film, the coating amount of the adhesive can range from 1.2 to 2.5 g / m2. Usually, for printed film lamination, the coating amount needs to be increased appropriately when the structure is AI/CPP.
  • Adding: Use a two-component dosing and mixing unit to add the adhesive continuously to the adhesive tank of the solvent-free laminator. The adhesive in the tank should be kept as fresh as possible to avoid abnormal viscosity affecting the coating result.
  • Pot life: 858A/Hardener 858B component has a pot life time of about 40-50 minutes at 45°C after mixing and shows reliable workability. See Figure 1 below.
  • Laminating conditions: Precise tension control and proper winding procedures prevent delamination, roll head size difference, and film curl.
  • Curing: Cure at 38 - 45℃ for 12-24h for rewinding and slitting. For three-layer laminates, the second layer of raw material is laminated and then cured for 6-12 hours before the third layer is laminated. Laminates are usually cured at 38- 45℃ for 24-48 hours.
  • Cleaning: When the machine is shut down for more than 30 minutes, the metering roll position adhesive can no longer be used and the coating unit needs to be cleaned with a solvent/plasticizer mixture (refer to Safety Precautions). The two-roller coating unit also needs to be cleaned and the same cleaning procedure should be carried out at the end of the start-up period.
  • Bonding data performance test: in a variety of plastic/plastic, plastic/aluminum composite processes show excellent bonding performance.

Notes

When using 858A/ hardener 858B an efficient exhaust hood should be installed on the coating unit for safety reasons. The exhaust efficiency has to be checked prior to production by gas analysis for isocyanate concentration in the air. Safety regulations with regard to the handling of isocyanates have to be followed as per the guidelines issued by the International Isocyanates Institute. Please also refer to the local safety instructions as well as our safety data sheet and contact Huitian for analytical support.

Special Note: 858B In cold winter, there will be small lumps is a normal phenomenon, before use in the drying room preheating can be melted or in the dosing tank can be melted, which does not affect the use.
